Restless Nights Procession
18.07.2008
MAIN ARENA TO THE LAKE – THURSDAY NIGHT
There was some mystery as to where it would actually take place but to then the sound of children’s laughter coming from the woods behind us unveiled the start of the procession. I turned around and there it was, in all its hot pink glory.
A man dressed as a woman, in a hot pink evening gown and long red curls came striding through the woods on top of some stilts. Behind her, a spectacular and unbelievably long train of material dragged behind the dress, flashes of hot pink fabric cut swathes through the woods. Various characters dressed as schoolgirls and jesters carried the train, causing mischief at the back running in and out and under the fabric, creating some beautiful ripple effects.
Children from all around were breaking free from their parents and chasing the fabric, running under it and laughing with joy as the performers lifted the material into the air above them. Every now and then, the lovely lady on stilts barked orders at her motley crew (“Company halt!”) in order for them to regroup and the children halted along with them. This was definitely one for the kids who all absolutely loved it. Smiles all round.
