Light & Shadow Installations & Performance Spectacles

Utilising in the woods, the Woodland Stage and On The Lake, THE IRREPRESSIBLES musical spectacles will feature fantastical light and audio-shadowing effects created in collaboration with award winning sound artist William Turner-Duffin and lighting designer Andy Hammond.

"LIGHT & SHADOW" SOUND INSTALLATIONS ...In The Woods

For two hours leading up to THE IRREPRESSIBLES performance spectacles the woods at Latitude will come alive with sounds to experience. Orchestral textures will be heard echoing & rippling through the forest adding atmosphere and magic to your journey - or perhaps an otherworldly picnic. The pieces specifically created for the woods at Latitude by sound artist William Turner Duffin will be projected from light activated sound installations – the level of sunshine through the leaves of the trees lifting the sound of the orchestral instruments & the intensity of the performance.

You'll be able to experience the Light & Shadow sound installations in the woods of Latitude at the following times: Thursday 5:45pm - 8:15pm, Friday 5:45pm - 8:15pm, Saturday 10:15am - 12:45pm. Each day of woodland installations will deminish into THE IRREPRESSIBLES performance spectacles, for more information see below...

"LIGHT & SHADOW" SPECTACLES ...at dusk on The Woodland Stage

As dusk falls the sound installations will diminish, and as bells are heard ringing across the forest The Irrepressibles 10-piece orchestra will appear & disappear inside a box of illusion…

Taking reference from sun dials, the changing perspective caused by shadow, and how light and shadow can play tricks on the eye, the bare black stage will come to life elaborated with a multitude of bulbs that will flare, create shadow, illuminate & ripple in response to the performers theatrical costume, makeup and musical delivery.

Presented as fantastic silhouettes in structural avant-garde costumes by NATASA STAMATARI & makeup by GIADA VENTURINI The Irrepressibles will launch into a dramatic 35minute live performance of music taken from their up and coming debut album. With choreography practioned by Melanie Simpson the orchestra will lift and extend through iconic moments of musical intensity and abandon.

Like the master of the silhouettes, sound artist William Turner-Duffin will reflect, extend, and add height & glitter to the arrangements. Manipulating the orchestras output - including the transformation of McDermott's voice into a bird & other instruments into other forms - William will create differing audio "perspectives" responding to the effects of the lighting installation and building on the beauty and theatricality of Jamie McDermott's unique compositions.

Performance Times: Thursday 17th and Friday 18th July from 8.15pm – 9pm on the Woodland Stage.

"NATURAL LIGHT" SPECTACLE...at midday On The Lake

Referencing the rich history of optical illusion The Irrepressibles 10 piece orchestra will appear on the lake as a vision of natural light & mirrors.

Throughout the surreal & emotionally intense performance the orchestra's costume will flare and ripple in response to daylight - taking on the colours and textures of the water, woodland, and faces surrounding. To add to the theatricality the orchestra will move with choreography by Melanie Simpson and interact with a team of mirror bearers flashing sunlight back into the scene. This is sure to be a fascinating spectacle and a one off for Latitude. Feel free to bring your mirrors along and interact with the show!

Developing on collaborations with The Irrepressibles in the scoring of film, recording and performance, sound artist William Turner-Duffin will re-contextualise the sound of the orchestra to the site of the lake  - extending & adding reflections to meet the intimacy of this unique performance.

Performance Times: Saturday - 12.45pm – 1.30pm

"Light & Shadow" spectacles conceived by Jamie McDermott of The Irrepressibles & developed by THE IRREPRESSIBLES & creative team 2008.
